Tania Slater
PhD
Tania Slater (Ngāpuhi) returned to CPHR in 2004 after policy and research work at the National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuges and the Ministry of Justice. She has worked for many years on occupational health projects including hairdressers, welders, sawmill workers and cleaners. Her research focusses have been on Māori and cancer. Tania’s thesis examined the role and potential of primary care for Māori with cancer in Aotearoa/New Zealand. This work included Māori access to and through cancer care at prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, palliative care and survival. It also investigated the work of Māori health provider organisations in cancer prevention as well as care and support for cancer patients and their whānau. Tania left CPHR in 2017 but remains an honorary research fellow.
