Ridvan (Riz) Tupai-Firestone
Dr Firestone works across a variety of research projects at the CPHR, including investigating lung function capacity among Pacific children, examining hidden fat and the gut microbiome among Pacific women. Her primary research is to develop an obesity intervention programme specifically for Pacific youth and young adults, an age group whose established lifestyle-related behaviours are malleable to change. She was awarded the HRC’s Sir Thomas Davis Te Patu Kite Rangi Ariki Health Research Fellowship in 2014 to develop this intervention programme. Dr Firestone also coordinates and teaches Pacific health course as part of the Masters of Public Health.
