Naomi Brewer

PhD, MMedSci, BSc(Hons)

Naomi’s research interests are mainly focused on cancer epidemiology and health disparities. Naomi is currently working on a Health Research Council funded project investigating the acceptability of self-sampling for human papillomavirus (HPV) testing for cervical cancer-screening, which builds on a pilot study undertaken in Porirua. During her time at CPHR, Naomi has worked on a variety of studies including: assisting with the independent monitoring of the National Cervical Screening Programme; the prevalence of HPV in a cohort of women in Fiji; occupational and environmental risk factors for motor neurone disease; pesticide exposure and neurological effects in children; and, associations between glycosylated haemoglobin and cancer risk. Naomi’s PhD (completed in 2011 at the CPHR) involved a series of epidemiological studies of cervical cancer survival in NZ.

Naomi is a member of the Cancer Research Trust NZ Board of Trustees and a member of the grant Assessing Committee. She was a member of the 2014 International Epidemiological Association (IEA) World Congress of Epidemiology (WCE) Scientific Program Organising Committee, and was inaugural Chair of the IEA’s Early Career Epidemiologists Committee 2010–2014.
